Armenian members of an illegal armed unit periodically fired at Azerbaijan Armed forces stationed in the Khojavand and Tartar regions using minor arms, Trend News Agency reported Sunday, citing Baku’s Defense Ministry.

Azerbaijani Army units subsequently took adequate retaliatory measures after coming under fire, and haven’t suffered any losses of military personnel and equipment.

The situation in the region is stable, added the statement.

Relations between the former Soviet republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan have been tense since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Upper Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.

During a 44-day conflict that started in 2020, Azerbaijan liberated several cities, 300 settlements, and villages that were illegally occupied by Armenia for almost 30 years.
