RL Stine might not challenge Stephen King in terms of adaptation domination, but he’s had a few of his books turned into movies. His most popular series, Goosebumps has already fuelled one live-action TV series and two movies and Disney+ just gave the greenlight to a new small screen version.
The series follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together – thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other – in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.
Unlike the original series, which spawned four seasons of kid-friendly terror, this one appears to be more serialised approach, and the Mouse House has handed out a 10-episode first season order. Will Jack Black – who appeared as a version of Stine, and voiced familiar ventriloquist dummy Slappy in the movies, return? Only time and, presumably, the right deal, will tell.
