Patrick Stewart‘s Jean-Luc Picard is ready to warp back onto our screens for the second season of Star Trek: Picard, and the latest trailer for the show features another look at John de Lancie’s troublesome, omnipotent alien Q and the first footage of Whoopi Goldberg‘s Guinan making her long-anticipated return to the Trek universe. Check out the UK trailer via Prime Video…
Season 2 will see Picard reunited (not by choice) with old nemesis Q, the powerful creature who decided to put humanity in general and Picard in particular, on trial for their many alleged crimes way back in the first episode of Star Trek The Next Generation. He’s popping back up again to cause more trouble for our redoubtable hero, this time plunging Picard and co. into a warped version of reality where Earth and the Federation are a totalitarian regime (though one that appears different from the Mirror Universe that has been part of Star Trek for decades).
To try and fix this new development, Picard seeks out help from longtime friend Guinan, herself a mysterious and powerful alien. He’ll also need to travel back in time (utilising tech from The Borg Queen, here played by Annie Wersching). He and his team head for 2024 Los Angeles, confronting all manner of threats, including traffic. It’s LA, and as anyone who has had to deal with its freeways can attest, that’s more of a problem than the Romulans and the Dominion combined.
Alison Pill, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Orla Brady, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Brent Spiner are also among the cast for the show, which has been renewed for Season 3 (and cameras are already rolling on those episodes).
Star Trek: Picard lands on Prime Video in the UK on 4 March.
With the vagaries of international rights and geolocking, US audiences can’t watch that trailer. So, here’s the Paramount+ equivalent, with the show returning Stateside on 3 March.
